I have a iPhone 4 that I am having a sleep button problem with. If I am on any screen except the lockscreen the sleep button works fine. If the phone is locked I can wake it up with the sleep button. If the phone is locked and the screen is awake I cannot put it back to sleep with the sleep button, it is unresponsive.

Any ideas?

Is your iPhone in a case or naked? If the former, take it out of the case and see if it still happens. If it happens when not in a case also, take it to an Apple Store and reproduce the issue, if in warranty you should get a replacement.

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure I know the answer but I know someone else will have a definitive answer. My phone is jailbroken should I reset it to factory before I take it to Apple store for them to look at it?

Thanks
