Sleep expert Roy J.E.M Raymann, who joined Apple back in 2014, has left the company and moved on to SleepScore Labs, where he will serve as Vice President of Sleep Science and Scientific Affairs.

Raymann joined Apple as the company was developing the Apple Watch, and at the time, his hiring spurred rumors that the device would have sleep tracking capabilities, which never materialized.

Prior to joining Apple, where he served as "Health and Health Technologies Staff," Raymann was at Philips where he founded the Philips Sleep Experience Laboratory, a non-clinical sleep research facility.

According to his LinkedIn profile, while at Apple, Raymann worked on Night Shift, the Bedtime alarm, display recommendations and color filters, and HealthKit and ResearchKit.

News of Raymann's departure comes just days after Apple acquired Beddit, a company that produces a sensor-equipped sleep monitoring system.

It's not yet clear what Apple plans to do with Beddit's technology, but Apple is continuing to sell the Beddit sleep monitor and has updated its privacy policy to note that it is collecting sleep-related data that could influence future projects at the company.

Its clear this guy couldn't make it happen in the allotted time frame. The hired him, told him what they wanted, he obviously couldn't deliver so they bought company for their tech/talent. No need to keep on stagnant employees. See ya!

If they did this more often we would probably have much better Apple Apps.

What this probably means is that Apple Watch isn't going to have "week-long" battery life any time soon. Sleep tracking requires you to be WEARING the device at night. Apple Watch is capable of doing it, but for that pesky need to take it off to charge it every day/night. Also, sleep tracking is on the edge of being a "FDA regulated" device depending on what you do/collect about it. Apple doesn't seem to have cracked that bit of regulation yet to advertise some of the really cool things they could learn with what they have right now.

Teacher: Johnny, what does your father do for a living?
Johnny: He's s senior sleep expert.
Teacher: Ah... your daddy works for the government or the Fed...

What's the point of this dude if the only sleep related work that came out of Apple was Night Shift (not hating on, but it wasn't even their idea) and the Bedtime thing in Clock, which relies on the user telling it when they go to bed o_O

I'll never understand how people can just drop paychecks like it's nothing. I wish I had that kind of money where having a job didn't matter. Rich people

What a waste of talent. Imagine all those extra colors he could have come up with in the next couple of years.
