Sleep issues on MacBook

Anyone else been having a hard time getting their macbook to sleep when they close the lid? It's an annoying problem i've been having on my aluminum macbook. Also on a side note, my monitor went black a couple of times while working in the Finder.

Having the same problem on my mid-2009 15 inch MBP.

Is powernap causing it?

Power Nap isn't available on 2009 MBP's.
