Sleep time changes - is this a problem?

    I have a new 27" iMac core i5

    Everything works well.

I typically do not turn it off instead I put it to sleep.

95% of the time it goes to sleep in a second or two. Sometimes it takes about 10 seconds - usually before 10 seconds I try again to put it to sleep so perhaps it actually only takes a couple of seconds still as the 2nd attempt is what works.

    Waking up is always fast.

    My questions:

    1) Why does this happen?

    2) Is it a problem?

There may be processes running that are preventing the machine from sleeping. e.g. the machine shouldn't sleep if it's in the middle of trying to print something out or if it's in the middle of a time machine backup.

Also, if you've enabled safe sleep, it'll take longer depending on how much you have open, since much of it will have to be paged to disk.

    Thank you Detrius,

I have not enabled safe sleep - I don't know what it is..

No printing or time capsule going on

I still am wondering if I should be concerned.

From your description, I wouldn't be worried. It's still going to sleep in a reasonable amount of time.
