I'm really surprised there is basically only one sleep tracking app for the watch. Even more surprised Apple hasn't offered one theirselves. I use the Sleep ++ app and it's ok but the visuals are no where on par with even Garmin. I will say my favorite feature Sleep ++ has that Garmin does not is a running time of how long you've been asleep, very handy for when the baby wakes you up or the dogs in the morning and you're wondering if you should go back to bed for another hour or stay up. I'd love to see more apps offered in this area.

You're a bit off the mark saying there's only one sleep tracking app.
Anyway, you should try AutoSleep from the same author of HeartWatch. AutoSleep is absolutely top notch and a favourite of many here.

Huh, that's odd when I searched for sleep tracking a few weeks ago in the watch app store I didn't see many options. Now I'm seeing 3 others apps. Thanks for the tip.

No problem...... and another notch for AutoSleep is that you don't install anything on the watch; thus unlike the other sleep apps your battery does not get hit.

I use Sleep Watch. It just gives basic tracking info, but seems to be pretty accurate. Not that it's telling me anything I don't already know. I know how long I sleep and whether I've been restless or not. Having this info in an app doesn't really change anything for me.

I have been using Pillow for a long time and I like it. It reminds me of the sleep tracking I used to get from the Fitbit app.

Pillow can be configured to record audio or not (I usually don't). I use it to record movement and it also talks to the Health app to get your heart rate information during sleep. It also lets you record how you feel in the morning, and select from a list of custom factors that may have affected the quality of your sleep.

What I like about it is that it shows the times I get up at night because the dog needs to go out, or I need to go to the bathroom, or one of the kids is out of bed. I can see when I got into bed, when I fell asleep, and when my sleep was interrupted.

I take the sleep quality analytics with a grain of salt (such as it's display of when I'm in REM state or my sleep quality score), but overall I have to say that it seems accurate to me. Pillow gives me a lower sleep score on nights when I had to get out of bed and couldn't fall back asleep. I get a higher sleep score when my sleep is uninterrupted. If I wake up feeling like I didn't sleep well at all, my Pillow sleep quality score usually agrees and vice versa.

The display in Pillow is more detailed, but I can also go to the Health app and view the reports and graphs there.

As far as I'm concerned Pillow is an excellent sleep app for something that relies only on the watch and iPhone.

I couldn't find this AutoSleep app everyone was talkiang about. :(

I find it by searching the app store for "AutoSleep" Same for Heartwatch. Tantsissa is the developer if you want to search that way. I think I saw them sold as a bundle for slightly less as well. Make sure you haven't filtered the search by iPad only or free apps only.

These do look like good apps. I'm happy with Pillow, but wonder... maybe I'm missing out on something? I'm such an app junkie!

I do find some of Pillow's metrics to be interesting... I can compare sleep quality to the notes I enter into Pillow, or I can compare sleep quality over time to data Pillow reads from Health: Steps, weight, caffeine consumed, exercise, blood pressure, etc. AutoSleep might have these as well.

Thank you. Last night I searched by iPad using "iPhone only" criteria but haven't found it. This morning I used iPhone and it's the first item on the list. Very strange.
Anyway, the app looks good.

I can no longer recommend Auto Sleep. The past few days, it's been showing that I am sleeping during various parts of the 24 hr day. Today, I slept 4.5 hrs and it is now showing that I've slept 13 hrs, 14 minutes which is rediculous.

I guess I'll try some other options.

No issues here. You could try deleting the app followed by a hard reset then a fresh reinstall.

So I wore two different watches to sleep last night, each paired to a different iPhone.

I got two entirely different readings from each.

My Nike+ said I slept 3:51 hrs which I think is correct which is about what I've been sleeping the last few weeks.
The other watch paired to my brand new SE, showed 6hrs, 54 minutes. I laid in bed for several hrs trying to sleep more but I don't think I was really fully asleep during that time. It seems the watch counted that time.

Clearly something is not right here Jackie. The thing is I can not see it directly being the app itself that is causing the issue because if that were the case we would be seeing scores of similar issues from other users. I myself have absolutely no issues with AutoSleep; it's always accurate, faultless to the last.
I still recommend you contact David the author at appsupport@tantissa.com He will be keen to hear of any issues.

I will do that, thank you.
