Previously I had an Apple Watch series 1 and currently have a Fitbit versa (first generation). I’m looking upgrade soon and I’m thinking about going back to the Apple Watch but I’m also thinking about the Fitbit sense. Sleep tracking is a big thing for me since I’ve been known to sleep walk from time to time. The versa has been wonderful for sleep tracking but lacks in everything else (for me)

my question is, is there a way to have the Apple Watch track my sleeping without going through the bedtime app thing? I go to bed at different times every night so I would like the Apple Watch to just track my sleep (native app or 3rd party, doesn’t matter) automatically like my Fitbit does without messing with a bunch of things on my phone or the watch.

thanks!

I use AutoSleep (http://autosleep.tantsissa.com/). Works great for me and I also prefer not using the bedtime feature for sleep tracking, so AutoSleep does the recording and writes the data into Apple Health. Plus, you get a lot more insight into your sleep cycle
Awesome, that’s what I was hoping for! So it just automatically starts tracking when it senses that I’m asleep? I don’t need to open the autosleep app, correct?

Count me in as another positive vote for AutoSleep. Way more in-depth data recording and the app is easy to navigate after a few days of playing around with it. I tried Apple’s native sleep tracking for the first week and was disappointed, so I went back to AutoSleep and I haven’t looked back.

After you go through the setup wizard, it’s practically “set it and forget it”. It will automatically track your sleep and the app just does it’s thing in the background.

Like everybody said before me : AutoSleep is worth every cent.

It works really well together with the Apple health app.

absolutely perfect 👍

Yes either that or - if you prefer - you can also use a small widget on the iphone or on the watch to start the tracking manually - by which you can also track the time you spent from going to bed until actually sleeping.

One more vote for AutoSleep.

AutoSleep can be set manually to have it start measuring how long it actually takes you to fall asleep; with a shortcut you can use Siri to start that with a voice command.

I use the Pillow app, personally, but there's a few good sleep trackers out there that don't require the Bedtime feature on the Watch.

Thanks to all your recommendation, I‘ve brought the AutoSleep app. £3.99 here in the UK. Seems pretty simple and straightforward.
You won’t regret it. Plus, you have supported a Dev who didn’t switch to subscriptions which annoy the hell out of me ;-)

Another vote for AutoSleep. It’s the best sleep app out there IMO. Well worth the purchase.
