I cannot figure out how to work sleep tracking with my Series 6. I set a schedule 11pm to 7am and when in bed I hit the sleep button from the swipe up on the watch.

In the morning the health app shows 8 hours as average time in bed but I had a bad night in and out etc. Also it doesnt showsleep time.

I notices in the sleep section of Health Apple Watch is not showing under Data sources and Access.

How do I fix this.

Hi Ross - I have exactly the same issue. I have followed all of the instructions to set it up, went to sleep last night, and don't get any of the stats at all. The only stats I get are from the iPhone - i.e. the Apple watch didn't seem to record anything. I saw the following youtube video, in which the reviewer also didn't get any stats - until about an hour after waking up, when they just appeared.

Hey guys, you need to go into the health app on your phone and search for sleep in there. It is hidden away and the app needs tidying up. Hope this helps.
 
I tried the built in Sleep app and it's quite lacking in detail that you have to dig out in the Health app.

So I just purchased AutoSleep which seem to be highly praised. It automatically does the work for you and can detect when you got to bed without you telling it you are going to sleep by detecting your movement, heart rate, etc.

I have yet to use it but I will check back once Ive used it for a few days.

I assume you have to leave the sleep detection app on within the watch settings for this to work ? Or is that just used for Apples sleep recording ?

I'm using AutoSleep and the detection is on point. It logs the data to Health app too.

Think I will go with Autosleep thanks.

good choice. ive used it for years, but made myself try the new native sleep tracking for a few days when Watch OS7 shipped last year. it takes far more work to setup, for far less useful data. i disabled it and am back to restless nights with autosleep

I assumed that with native sleep tracking the need for a third party app would go away. Definitely not the case. The Health app is fine for a general repository of health data but it is almost comically bad at reporting in a way that is useful.

I personally use Sleep++ and that doesn’t seem likely to change any time in the near future.

Yeah, Apple seems to not want to cut into the sales of 3rd party apps by purposely making their own tracker so lackluster. It make sense as they do take a 30% cut of each purchase.

I will go check out Sleep++ when I have time. There seem to be many good ones but some require a subscription plan which I am not keen on.

I did try out AutoSleep last night and the data produced was nearly spot on. I even had an option to fine tune my actual sleep and wake times as Apple's own app somehow thought I was asleep when I was sitting very still in front of my iMac! Unreal. I was able to tell it when I woke up to the minute. It seems to take some data off of the Health App Apple includes in iOS. And being that the app isn't the most accurate, it's best to teach AutoSleep what data to keep and what to ignore. That confirmed Apple's own sleep tracker was next to useless.

The one part I found somewhat useful was that my new S6 measured my SpO2 while I was sleeping and found that I had O2 between 95 to 100% during the night. It was not specific as to when the readings were taken (light vs deep sleep) but it at least roughly told me that I probably don't have sleep apnea. This was a concern of mine as my wife tells me I snore and I have done a sleep study test a few years back that said I might have very mild version of it that didn't require me to wear a CPAP. Perhaps 3rd party integration of the S6's pulse oximetry can be integrated into they sleep tracker app to future enhance the data logging and allow users to really take a more granular look.

The Sleep app detects when you go to sleep as well. The stock app wasn’t designed to provide a plethora of data like AutoSleep. Apple even states the limited intent of the app in ether watch presentation.

I’ve never really seen the point in tracking sleep (and if you think you have a health issue, you’re going to go to a doctor anyway), but I thought I’d try Apple’s built in sleep tracking. So far I’m not impressed. I find the graph hard to read - you should be able to zoom in on a day to see the data, it sometimes thinks I’m asleep when I’m awake & on my phone too (I have it set up to record sleep tracking on my watch and phone), you should be able to see more specific data as well.

I think I’ll give it to the end of the week & stop using it. I do like the idea of winding down by listening to sleep sounds in AM or by listening to a podcast. It does seem to want you to specify when you go to bed each night, though & that’s not realistic. I wish it was automatic.
