What saves more power leaving your pc in sleep mode for 10- 12 hours vs shutting down your computer.

Shutting down the computer will save more power, although putting it to sleep doesn't use that much power.

Sleep still uses 10-15 percent because it needs the battery on call so it starts up faster, shutting down stops everything and uses no battery power, however if using the computer frequently, like every hour it is better to use sleep because turning it on causes more stress on the battery initially (or outlet in the case of other stationary macs)
