Apple had the right idea when they moved the sleep/wake button from the top of the device to the side (right) of the device.

However, reading through these forums and talking to a few people I know who have iPhone 6's, many are still having difficulty reaching it. In fact, many (including myself) keep hitting the volume rocker buttons when reaching for the sleep/wake button.

The natural way for most people to hold the phone is to rest the device against the hand, while the thumb rests on the left side of the device on the volume buttons, while the remaining 4 digits rest in the right side of the screen ~midway to lower half of the device.

THIS is where the sleep/wake button should be.

Anyone else think this move would be better?

All buttons should just be removed, including the screen. Who needs all that anyways

No it it was lower I would be locking my screen on accident. I think it's spot is perfect. And no I don't press the volume buttons on accident.

I don't understand how you end up pressing buttons on the other side of the phone? It's one thing to miss the button, but to end up on the other side... is well bizarre.

Also, some people hold the phone with the other hand (right).

I really like the location of it as it fits really well with my hand.

It's really not all that hard to understand. When pressing a button, there needs to be some resistance on the other side of the device, otherwise it would fall right out of your hand. So if I'm holding my phone in my right hand and using my thumb to click the sleep button, then my other fingers are gripping the other side of the device. If your hand is positioned higher up, it's quite easy for those fingers to accidentally click the volume buttons as they hold the phone in place. I've done this many times already in just several days of owning the device.

I was wondering if that was the case or if the OP just missed the button and went to the other side.

Completely agree with the OP. I am always hitting the power button now when I change the volume. Wish it were back on top. Better yet... Since we can now tap the touch ID to do things.. 3 taps to power off would be way better.

To be quite honest, I absolutely hate the position of the sleep button now. I take tons of photos with my phone and when using the camera in landscape view and using the + volume button to snap the photo, I keep turning off my phone with my right thumb. Like the former poster said, you need resistance from the other side of the phone, and thats where your thumb sits.

Even though I am right-handed, I do a lot of one handed use with my left hand and I also keep hitting the volume rocker when trying to lock my phone. I think the problem is partially my fault because I'm use to the old grip when the lock button was up top and now I have to figure out the easiest way to adjust to the button moving.

    Interesting tidbit.

If you press the power button and the volume button at the same time. The volume button takes precedent.

My phone didn't come equipped with a shower button!!!

Do I need to take it back?!

EDIT: On topic, I hit the volume buttons all the time when trying to turn the device off too. Mostly when it's on a flat surface and I don't want to pick it up.

I agree. I'm constantly hitting the volume when I try to power off.
