iOS 4.3.1 was much faster than 4.1 when I first installed and jailbroke it (without the apps and stuff). I was surprised, I don't even remember the iPod being this fast :D

Well, I have one page of games installed, with still over 6GB of free space on my iPhone 4.

None of the games, from Infinity Blade to FF3 to Dead Space to Angry Birds Rio display the launch animation when pressed. Not one of them. You press the icon, it dulls when touched, then it just appears on screen.

I phoned Applecare since I'm within my 90 days telephone support period for this iPhone 4 (had one at launch, sold it for personal reasons in December, and bought a new one in January), and they've set up a replacement today at the Apple Store in Glasgow. The Applecare representative said that the performance was "not acceptable", even though I told her there's numerous threads on the Apple discussion forums regarding the issue.

A lot of people think we're "seeing things", but this phone is nowhere near as fluid a user experience as it once was. I don't personally think a replacement phone will do any good, but then again if I get one on even 4.2, it'll be better than this.

You're really replacing your phone over this?? Not only will a replacement make no difference whatsoever, but does poor opening animations really matter that much??

I used to be a big advocate of this thread, now even I think it just needs to die.

If I could get a phone on 4.2, then yes I would. I've no means of getting back to 4.2 since I've never jailbroken and have no SHSH blobs saved.

And yes the missing animations DO matter that much, because they weren't an issue before.

Just need to hope Apple acknowledge the dropped frames and patch it, I guess.

That reminds me.

I hate how Apple doesn't allow us to roll back our software safely. We have to rely on third party hacks to do it. Rather sad.

So when an update breaks our phones, we're supposed to put up with it until they fix it with another update (if they fix it).

Also, don't tell us not to upgrade because upgrades are supposed to be upgrades (fixing bugs, making things better... not worse), plus they always seem to put some extra features in them so the reason to update is even higher (HDR, Airplay, Airprint etc).

I personally would love for them to get the iPhone 4 working like it did before 4.1, but that most likely won't happen. It's in the past now and we'll never get to see it again (except for if you go to Best Buy and play with the display model that's still running 4.0.2... it's so amazingly fast and fluid EVERYWHERE. There's no stutters, no delays, no weird animation quirks... it's just rock solid).

Apple has been slowly, but increasingly losing me as a customer. This kind of crap has been going on for a few years now and the only reason I stick with it is because even with it's flaws, the iPhone still can't be matched by any other phone. They ALL suck.

The end.

I don't think thats the case. I think all the new Android phones (EVO, Thunderbolt, etc.) are much better than the iPhone currently, as a smartphone. If you want to play games on it, then well the iPod Touch is the best companion.

Hope this is a lesson for everyone, don't jump the upgrade once it comes out, wait for tech blogs to report bugs and lag.
I made that mistake by upgrading to iOS 4.0 on my iPhone 3G. Thank god i downgraded until iOS 4.2.1, but it's still not as fast.. hence i'm waiting for the iPhone 5.

I don't like Android. It's not as good as iOS.

You think this is bad? on 4.3 you dont even get the animation unless the app is on its own page. damn i want to go back to 4.1 on my iPod touch :( the only problem with 4.2 was crap battery life.

You're right, it's not as good as iOS in terms of apps and such. But as a 'smartphone', the powerful Android phones are much better than the iPhone 4.

Do us a favor and just add something like IMO to the end of statements like this, you're presenting opinion as fact.

Part of the problem is that there is no definition for what constitutes a 'smartphone', let alone a means of comparing quality. Many would consider the quality of a smartphone to be a function of the quality of apps.

As for comparing hardware; since Android is just the OS, the hardware can not be considered a feature of Android. Rather the hardware is a feature of only a given handset/manufacturer.

I've been noticing "sloppy animations" on 4.3.1 on my iPhone 4 and searched out and found this thread. Add me to the list of those experiencing this issue.

It would be nice to be able to roll back to 4.0.2 to see the difference and make the choice of using the older OS with less features but faster operation vs. the newer but slower version.

Add me to the list. Of course i am jailbroken so i dont know how much of that has to do with the weird animation hiccups. I cant recall but when i was stock 4.3.2 it was smooth...then again i didnt have any apps loaded but facebook, beluga and foursquare.
