Its been haunting me for years, anyone know if they improved?

If any printers respond faster then waiting 20- 30 seconds?

My hp 8610 will start printing about 3 seconds after I hit print on my phone. As long as it shows up as an available printer, which is not always the case.

This depends on your printer, I had a canon pixma inkjet which would take ages to receive the full page I'm printing, then take an age to print the page. I have a beast of a Brother colour laser multifunction doodah printer now which takes up to 10 seconds to start printing.

Also, are you printing photos or documents? From experience, documents are usually faster as their file sizes are usually smaller and require less processing.

Mine takes a good 30-45 seconds before it even shows up as an option in print...then again I am using a modified script in Linux to make my non airprint printer work, that might have something to do with it.

Thanks for all your replies.

I basically am printing a photo because in my app I'm taking a PDF screenshot of the view in the back ground and then using that to print. (When I first created the app I didn't know how to create a 'print format')
