While that's definitely not a bad idea, I think I would feel better if I did a completely fresh install, erasing everything on the HDD right now, even though it will be more painful. As for your questions, none of those things should cause a problem as my dad's 2009 MBP boots up quite fast, almost completely bypassing this blue screen altogether. Now, its reinstalling time .

Yes, but your dad's comp has a different account, so although it shouldn't make a difference, it could (especially if you are auto-mounting something like a folder or drive). I asked this as it may be a clue as to the cause of your problem, such as a faulty BT or airport module that is interfering with the boot process. You never said that there was another Mac (or Apple product) in the house, so I was just starting at the basics and trying to help with a new product,as you made it sound like this was your first Mac and trip to the other side. Have fun with your install.

It probably would have been good for me to mention that my dad had a MBP but I really haven't known my way around a Mac nearly as well as I do now that I have one. Sorry if I sounded unappreciative, I am grateful for everyone's help so far. Thanks again for the advice :).

No problem. I asked the questions trying to narrow down that maybe a part had gone bad. If they are on at start up and problems occur, yet off at start up and no problems occur, then that can be a sign of where to start. I worked tech support/ repair for multi-million dollar pieces of equipment for years and you would be surprised how it is usually the little things like that to be the problem. I think it is an errant driver somewhere.

SUCCESS! Did a fresh reinstall of SL and it restarts like a charm! Now under 20 seconds til login screen almost completely bypassing the blue screen altogether :D:D. Thanks for all the help everyone. Now I can be completely satisfied with my new Mac experience :p.
