Installed release WatchOS 10.5 yesterday. Since my series 8 watch is charging at a fraction of the speed it did before. Took over 2 hours to charge using a USB-C fast charger it’s always used before. Turned off all the smart charging features did a hard reset on both watch and iPhone, no change in charging speed.

Anyone else having this problem?

"Over two hours"...
About two hours sound perfectly normal.

As you write about charging "at a fraction of the speed it did before" - how many minutes did the watch use to get charged to 100% before?

45 minutes was the longest it ever took before

To add a bit of context, the charge time published in the specs on the Apple website said the series 9 charged from depleted to 100% in 75 minutes using a 20 watt charger, followed by a disclaimer that your actual results will vary. I believe the series 8 spec was the same.

It is index about 45 minuten to 80%, then up to 2.x houts to 100% with the appropriate charger. To be honest - I always calculate about 2 hours somewhat.

The higher the state of charge when you start, the slower it will be. Even my car is like that.

However, I've not seen my Ultra 2, even on the newest software version, take more than 1.5-2.0 hrs to reach 100% regardless of the initial SoC.

noticed the same thing with my AW series 7 - also got fast charger and adapter. definitely longer to charge since update
