At the risk of repeating in this forum I thought i would share too.
With MacBook Pro early 2013, mavericks all updated.
I just tried upping the RAM from 4 to 8. The good news I don't get beach balls, just long pauses.
Have cleared caches, rebuilt databases and permissions.
I guess this is a fact of life.

Not sure what you are talking about.

First, you should change your title because a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro are different machines.

Second, it sounds like you are talking about the MacBook Pro Classic, so you might consider switching over to an SSD rather than adding RAM. I'm not sure what you are loading, but if you are talking about opening files, then a faster SSD will ail this problem better than adding RAM.

If you are running Windows, or Windows programs, it is reasonable to believe that it will run slower on a Mac. You may consider looking at Mac versions or OSX alternatives.
