My 2012 MBA SSD seems slow according to black magic app.

Reads at 480ish speeds but writes at 140-148 max!

Web tells me this should be closer to 400.

Is it a sierra thing slowing it down or is it just old and wearing out?

other than black magic is there other ways to narrow down the issue?

Machine does run ok.

but to start up my old 2010 macbook is almost as fast before it died.

I'm on a 2012 MBA too, this is fairly typical of how mine looks

You could do a test of this utility to see if your SDD has wear issues
https://www.corecode.io/ssdreporter/

I'd probably try the old VRAM & SMC reset to make me feel better.

Finally & a daft thing but check if the System Preferences/Startup Disk is actually set to the internal SSD. Having had reason to boot from a couple of different older OSX's on USB HDD's mine didn't have the local SSD set as start. Ages ago it made no noticeable difference to the boot time but since ummm Yosemite(ish?) it did seem to take longer to establish the selected-start external USB boot was missing & revert to the internal.

day to day use is fine, boots is not super fast. My 2010 MacBook with SATA 2 SSD boots at about same speed.
air is half to 1 second faster to login screen.

but daily use is fine.

that app shows 96% wear level count 196.

reports health ok
