After restarting Leopard using Ctrl+command+power, the computer goes black and stays there for about 30 seconds until the CD drive boots and the Mac chimes in.

This is happening on both my MacBook Pro and my MacBook. With Tiger, it was instant.

Any idea if this is normal?

Yes, it's happening to my MacBook Pro, too.

Don't know why.

Anybody have any suggestions?

This happens to me from time to time, usually after a os upgrade (so it did it to me with Tiger too). Typically, after rebooting once or twice, it goes back to normal. I've always assumed it was simply performing some task during this period.

For that matter, if I power off and the case is noticeably cold when I power up, my screen will stay black for about 30 seconds before the Mac will make the startup sound and move to the gray screen.
