I ordered her custom engraved one last week on a Sat and got it on my doorstep on Monday afternoon.....I seriously want to know how they pulled that off.

Mine just arrived at the Los Angeles sort facility at 4:25 PM PST. I guess they still have a few hours to make it to my doorstep. Anyone know how late Fedex delivers?

Anyone else get theirs today?

Mine is sitting in the nearby sort station. :-( Won't get it til after the weekend now/

I would gladly take an extra $100 off the refurb price for it being late another day or so, even as a Christmas gift. Be creative and make a big box with a picture of an Ipad of something when they open it up. Yeah it's not the same as having it on the spot, but I'm sure that person will still be excited to know they are getting an Ipad either way!

Yep, I didn't get mine, either. Thought when it got to L.A. it was going to make it. Guess I'll have to call Apple on Sunday to bitch and moan to them, and see what they'll do for me. Gotta say, it makes it even worse that the last Apple rep I talked to on Thursday swore it would be in my hands on Friday.

The little woman wasn't expecting it anyway. Not sure if I'll tell her tomorrow, or just wait to surprise her next week. I think I'll wait...

Seems I made a wise choice when I walked into the store and walked out with 2 iPad's within at most 45 minutes on dec 21st.

Great for you, Saberahul! Of course, monaarts ended up spending $200 less for an identical iPad that he'll have by Monday, so there's that...

Selling with a promised arrival date has nothing to do with Fedex or UPS and the blame does not rest with these companies if it did not arrive (unless there was a shipping issue on their end).

Apple used this sales enticement to get you to buy, and they need to make good on the promised if they fail to deliver (no pun intended).

So, I'd be on the phone immediately to complain, and be specific with what you want.

Tell them there are a number of people online who are sharing posts with the same problem, and have received $100 credits. Ask for $100. Be sure to mention the fact that your whole gift giving experience is shot to hell because they did not deliver.

You did take that risk when you ordered it that close to Christmas, i ordered my parents iPad in November.

Maybe. After taxes I paid $367 for my wife's iPad. She was very happy to know it'll be here Monday. By next week we'll both have iPad's and you paid much more. I pretty happy with my decision.

Well, I just got off the phone with Apple, and it was less than pleasant. The first rep I talked to offered me $50. I explained that I read others had received $100, but he wouldn't budge. I asked to speak to a manager, and was disconnected.

I called back, and the next rep was more sympathetic, but offered me free accessories. I again mentioned the $100, and he went to go talk to a manager. He came back saying that he could give $100 in accessories, but that's it. I asked to talk to the manager.

The manager came on, and I again explained the situation. He said he can't vouch for "rumor sites", and insisted that they will NOT give cash credits on iPads. He's been there all day today (Sunday), and they have not done it all day. I pointed out that the cash back offers were from last week, which made me even more upset - I feel like I trusted Apple, and they are making me pay more of a price for believing they would actually deliver. I also pointed out that an Apple rep I had talked to 15 minutes previous had offered me $50, so it can be done. That's when the manager conceded that it CAN be done, but they are under orders NOT to do it for iPads, and anyone caught doing it will be reprimanded (maybe that's why, when I asked for a manager the first time, I was disconnected).

After a lot of back and forth with the manager, he wouldn't budge. $100 of accessories is the final make-good offer. It's not that bad - I know my wife was planning to get a keyboard, case, etc. - but I don't like the idea I'm not getting the same offer as others.

Oh, and they assured me again that the iPad will be here tomorrow.

This. I know they advertised it, but you really should've been ordering any gift online waaaay before 21st Dec :s No matter what the 'guarantee', it's always a risk that's better to avoid.

Hope you had a great Christmas anyhow. It's something to look forward to! :)

Makes sense. As usual I didn't read your OP (lol) but replied based on other replies.

So I ordered my fiance a refurb 32GB iPad Wifi for xmas from apple's website late on December 21st. They had advertised that it will be here before 12/25 with free shipping, so I didnt bother paying for express shipping or anything.

So anyways, I finally got the email with the tracking number and it says estimated delivery is 12/27/10 on apple's website and FedEx's website says estimated delivery is 12/28/10… Is anyone else experiencing this? I am so angry right now!!

- Joe

Seeing how you have the tracking number I am curious as to what the point of origin is for a refurbished iPad.

FedEx is one of the most unreliable and worthless companies on the planet. I swear they must hire monkeys to plan and run that company.

I really wish Apple would go to UPS, soooooooooo much better!

Guess it depends on your local facilities. My local UPS drivers are completely incompetent. They knock half the time and leave my items out in plain sight. The route UPS takes also leaves them arriving at my house rather late, around 7PM. FedEx arrives around 12PM, always knocks, and even hide the packages behind the arch next to my door.

I agree - it depends locally. With UPS I'm certain my package will arrive around 7 PM at my house. With FedEx, I'm certain my package won't arrive the day it is supposed to arrive on.

Could there have been the possibility that the Christmas guarantee only applied to NEW items?

As someone who works for The UPS Store, I can provide imput on any shipping service..

Postal service options are NEVER guaranteed. If you did go to the post office, they'll say "expect this to be delivered on Friday" (or whatever date), but you really cannot take their word for it. They don't give you a tracking number, or really any guarantee of service. That applies to anything using the postal service- first class, parcel post, priority, express, etc.

FedEx Express is the ONLY guaranteed FedEx option. Ground and Home Delivery is NEVER guaranteed, unless it is going to a business address. You do have a tracking number and an expected delivery date, but it is not guaranteed. With Home Delivery, FedEx will only make the trip out to where you are if the trip is profitable, which at some times, could be upwards of 20 packages.

Over the holidays, due to heavy shipping volume, UPS suspended ground guarnatees for any packages picked up or delivered Dec. 13 through 25th. They were actually pretty on time this year, unless it was going from the east cost to the west coast, or vice versa.

UPS drivers (wouldn't know about FedEx drivers) work very hard throughout the year to deliver every package on time, and rarely are there any exceptions.

FYI, the Priority Holiday Shipping absolutely applied to refurbs - It was on the website, and confirmed on my confirmation email after I purchased. The email explicitly said the delivery would be on Dec. 23-24.

I think Apple had a problem because there was a run on 32GB units, but that's Apple's problem, not ours.

And I can certainly understand the issues involved with shipping this time of year, but remember, it was Apple promising us the delivery, not Fedex.
