Hey guys!

I upgraded my fusion drive to the 860 qvo samsung ssd 4TB

I'm not experiencing any lag so af, but when I tested it with blackmagic I was shocked at how slow the drive is. Only using the drive for 12 hours now.

Would it help if I enable trim?

I'm getting the same results on other apps :

Trim enabler 4 says : 111mb/s write and 297mb/s read ( I haven't enabled trim yet because this app charges you 14 euro for it )

novabench says :
write 137mb/s
read 258 mb/s

I have intel core i5 3,8ghz 2017 imac with 24gb of ram

just enabled trim with the sudo command, and now i'm getting 160mb write speed, still very slow

Hey! I removed the HDD , So now I have the 128GB SSD from apple and the 4TB ssd from samsung, they work as to separate drives. When I test the apple SSD I'm getting normal read and write speeds,

what's also strange is that when I do a clean install, with mac os catalina, I have 2 partitions?

I have the samsung ssd AND the samsung ssd 'files' partition?

I guess you connected a SSD to a "good old" SATA interface ?

Max. speed of a SATA 2 interface is 3 Gbps (300 MB/s). SATA 3 is 6 Gbps (600 MB/s).

So how old is your Mac ?

A Mac from 2011 has SATA3:

So then I would expect 500-600 MB/s. Just checked my (work) Lenovo laptop with a Sandisk SATA SSD and CrystalMark gives 580 MB/s read speed.

(CystalMark = AmorpheusDiskMark on Mac)

The QVO drives are QLC. Those are slow af. It uses SLC for cache. My guess is whatever you were doing exhausted all the SLC and it started using the QLC NAND. This is how manufacturers are are able to offer lower priced SSD's Using QLC.

probably because of putting my backup back!

now the drive is suddenly much faster, around 400 mb/s

I have sata 6
