Hello in my macbook air (2017) with latest Monterey release the startup from a while has become longer. In particular there is a point in the middle of startup where it stops a while
Even in safe mode is slow..just, may be, a little bit faster
I have tried to check the startup app, to update os, clean and fix the disk (which is far from being full...) and other little tips i have found on web ,don't know what else i can try
Any help?thank you

  • Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM by holding Option, Command, P, and R keys during startup.
  • Run a malware scan to check for viruses.
  • Use Disk Utility's First Aid to repair disk issues.
  • If all else fails, back up and reinstall macOS.

i have done them all..i didn't do a malware scan (though i don't think it is a malware)..any sw to suggest?

Don't think t is a problem of heating,m otherwise i would have problem in normal use also...to me it doesn't seems so hot

p.s. i know the resintsall would solve..but it is not a good solution, as it requie to bakcup, reinstall ec..long job. For now i will keep it like this...it doesn't take 5 minutes to boot..so i would rather bear the boot than the fresh install

Since you've tried all those troubleshooting steps and it's still not working well, running a malware scan is a good idea, just to rule out any potential issues. I'd recommend using Malwarebytes for Mac or Avast Security for Mac. They're trusted options for checking your Mac for any unwanted stuff. You can find them on their official websites.

But, honestly, I'm leaning towards this not being a malware issue since you've done all the other checks. If it doesn't turn up anything, it might be worth having an expert take a look or considering other hardware possibilities. Let's hope the scan gives you some clarity!

as i also imagine..mawarebytes did not report anything
I think it is not an harware problem either
I am a qulified tech..but i work with Pc and this is my wife mac...trying to help her, though i a have not much knoledge in mac
But for what i see ,this problem is time related..jus tlike happen in windows. After a couple of year performance degrade and startup get slower...and th only solution is reinstall
I though that mac would not be affected from this..but i must say that if i remember this is not the firs time that the mac get slower at startup!

You're right; even Macs can slow down over time due to various factors. It's not a common occurrence, but it can happen.

Since Malwarebytes didn't find anything, and you're not suspecting hardware issues, a clean macOS reinstall might be worth a shot. I know it's a bit of a hassle, but it can really freshen up the system.

it is a big hassle!! for now i'll keep it..it is slower..meaning not imemdiate as it used to be, but bearable if compared to the reinstall!

there are few point where it hangs a little but where it hangs more is athe the last 3 lines..first at the end of the 2 com....

thena a wile after the last one

You wouldn't happen to have an aftermarket SSD installed would you? Those are indicitive of trim issues commonly found with NVME adaptors with Monterey.
that's it! i have an aftermarket with adaptor. But it worked good for more than 1 year. Can i upgrade to the next macos other than monterey?

Monterey is the last officially supported version of macOS that can be installed on the 2017 Air. So, two options: Either install OpenCore Legacy patcher to enabled unsupported macOS versions OR change the drive out with a known working NVME controller. Intel/Crucial/Western Digital SSD's work great, just stay away from Samsung's.

so may be with a fresh install could solve..dont want spend now more money for the disk... i mean if the mac was unusable yes..but, for now, it is just a slower boot..not never ending
