Slow Time Machine... erase the drive now

Hi there

My time machine seems to be taking an unusually long time lately to complete a backup. Lot longer than I remember. I have 103GB left on the TM drive.

Is it a good idea to erase the time machine drive now and then, and start with a fresh backup? Thought I read this somewhere?
