I have 100/100 via fiber. Results via Wi-Fi. :D

I'll see if my roommates want to pitch in for better internet, but I still don't understand why similar downloads take longer with the MBP than the Toshiba. Are there security measures on the MBP that could be causing interference? I've read bits here and there about firewalls and ports all other sorts of techno-nonsense that I don't understand, but most of it seemed to be specific to wireless routers, not ethernet connections.

I feel like a caveman around these sort of thing.

It could be the torrent itself. If you have one with a lot of seeds without upload restrictions then they will give it as fast as you can take it. If there is a couple seeds restricting their upload speed to say 30Kbps then it will take a lot longer.

Since everyone is doing it..haha

What should I be getting? I'm at home and use a wired connection. It usually takes about an hour and a half to download a 700-800mb movie torrent (I always choose the one with the most seeds). My browser seems to be normal speed. I thought I had a good connection but according to this test apparently not. So why is my test so bad?

For most people, I think they don't notice anything below about 900KB/S (1000Kb/s=1Mb/S) on normal day to day web browsing. However, when downloading, that becomes a different story. There are just to many external factors that could be causing it.
Speed test says I get around 18MB/s if I remember correctly. None of my stuff ever downloads at that rate, even Apple updates and the like. I'll be lucky if i see 1MB/S on a download. This is dependant on the server speed, and just so many factors by the time the file gets from the hard drive it is stored on 1/2way over the world, to your local hard drive.
