How’s it that my old 13 Pro has better WiFi speeds compared to the latest and greatest 17 Pro?

13 Pro comes out ahead by 20% consistently in every speed test and I can’t figure out why. Similar observation on iOS 26.2 as well.

Anyone’s got any ideas?

And with 26.2.1? Seem to be quite a few "under the hood" updates to newer models

The tests above are on 26.2.1, and I’ve noticed similar differences on 26.2 as well.
17 Pro is only two weeks old and set it up as new on 26.2.
Whats your Wifi equipment that you're using? Are they connecting on the same frequency and using the same WiFi standard?

Same setup on the phones (same apps and settings)?

Only happening with Wi-Fi, not cellular data?

I'd check for updates on the Wi-Fi access points; also test with multiple Wi-Fi networks. Curious.

Consider the following...just my amateur made-up process

1. Compare signal strength at screen top.

2. If you have a mesh wifi network, move very close to the main node to compare signal strength and test. Hopefully that will ensure both connect to the same node.

3. Turn off cellular on both and test.

3. Check Settings → Wi‑Fi
- Presumably they are on the same network. If not, that might be your problem
- if on the same network, tap the circled “i” next to your connected network and verify low data mode is off.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the WiFi but they’re both connected to the 5GHz.
Same settings with almost the same apps.

Already moved my sim to 17P so just testing the WiFi on both.

I’ll run some tests on other networks to see if it’s a localized issue confined to my network or more widespread, as I can’t access my WiFi.

1. Signal strength is the same
2. Will run a test moving close to a node
3. Cellular only on 17P. Turned off and same speeds. Low Data mode always off.

When connected to Wi-Fi extender in far bedroom & same 5 GHz connection rates are reduced to about 1/2 to 1/3rd of these. This may help somewhat.
