Just tried a fresh install without any improvement so its probably safe to say its a Safari issue where some sites is not running optimaly

Normal ssd speed.
This is the messages i get in console. Is this normal ?

hmm, this is the message that comes up most often:
defekt 02:39:35.551455+0100 kernel void IOAccelFenceMachine::fence_timeout(IOTimerEventSource *): IntelAccelerator prodding blockFenceInterrupt

Problem with the Intel graphics ?

Do you have the new MacBook Pro 16 ? If yes can you check and see if you get any red flag messages there as well ?

If you google the message "intelaccelerator prodding blockFenceInterrupt" you get a lot of hits going back several years. Lots of discussions.

Some things seem to be weirdly sluggish on mine too. But most things are super snappy. UI seems to be quick, but it’s like things take a second longer than they should to load behind the scenes.

I made a new admin account and that stopped the console from spreading out the error, but it didn't fix the sluggishness on Gmail/Excel etc. FWIW its a very rare and minor problem. My excel document that I work on has a lot of data, and it could be that Excel 2019 is not that optimized for Mac yet.

Anyway I'm guessing the "intelaccelerator prodding blockFenceInterrup" is not connected to this issue. 95% of the time the Mac is running smoothly. Youtube, Steam games etc all run as expected.

Im leaning more toward Catalina or just some early problems with this new MacBook that eventually get fixed with updates.

Just updated to catalina 10.15.2 beta 3 without any improvements. Tomorrow I'm gonna try installing to Win 10 trough boot camp and if I get similar issues there its probably a problem with the Intel 630 graphics.

Just installed Windows trough bootcamp, and only AMD GPU drivers was detected. Tried to install them manually but it didn't find any hardware that fitted. Is this normal ?

Final update: Just went to my local electronic store and tested every MacBook they had, and every one had the same sluggish performance on Safari, so it safe to say it is a Catalina Issue probably with Java

I found a temp solution for me at least that removes the micro stutter when loading sites on Safari. This turn off Intel Graphics.

  1. Go to the  Apple menu and choose “System Preferences” and then go to “Energy” control panel.
  2. Uncheck the box next to “Automatic graphics switching
You can clear as day see the improvement on this site for example https://www.redcafe.net/threads/there-is-no-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel.452045/

With Intel Graphics I get micro stutters when the site loads.
With AMD GPU the micro stutters is not there.

It would be interesting to see if you guys get the same experience here ?

I recommend using gSwitch for this btw.. I mean whenever stuff starts to do stuttering I use gSwitch to switch my Intel GPU to the 5300M.

Hi, I am facing the almost exact same issue. Screen freezes once in a while. Since I use Chrome most of the time, to me it's Chrome that's laggy.

void IOAccelFenceMachine::fence_timeout(IOTimerEventSource *): IntelAccelerator prodding blockFenceInterrupt

It's been few days since I got the laptop, and this issue is constant. I am going to Apple Store and ask for a replacement, or refund if they refuse to replace it.

I think switching to dedicated GPU should resolve the issue. But that's not the point! I am not going change my behavior just because some faulty hardware issue (purely guessing, but very likely).

To OP. Switching to dedicated GPU will consume battery faster, but gives you an even better experience. Nothing else should be affected. However, the feeling that something is wrong and you need to find a workaround sounds annoying to me. So I am going to get a replacement.
