OS X used to have Finder color labels but not anymore. There are still people who don't want to upgrade OS because this. :-(

I know XtraFinder and TotalFinder can do this stuff but why use full alternative Finder app when it could be as simple as faceless background app. And TotalFinder don't have Label column, atleast not in any screenshots i have seen.

When you press keyboard shortcut, it opens frontmost Finder window (or folder selected in Finder) and shows its own simple window with Label column and allows to do simple stuff like drag&drop between Finder and this new app, nothing fancy.

    Anybody want to do this?

I investigated the possibility of writing a plugin for Finder for some changes I wanted to do.

I decided against that route because it was too dependent on Apple not changing Finder.

I'm working on making a full blown Finder alternative, instead.

Finder color labels? I'm confused as to what this is.

    You don't need this

OSX Mavericks introduced Tags. As far as I can see these are a direct replacement for what you are missing and more. You can even make more than just the base set of colors.

No you can't. You can make more tags, but the way the labels work, which allow backwards compatibility all the way back to the System days, means that you can't add extra colors.

For OP's purpose, it sounds like tags would be fine

Tags are not enough, because i need to have Labels-column and see files in colors. Thanks
