Oh dear, I'm standing paddle held high, and just realized...this horse is dead.

Especially because the OP has already come back to say that he called the company and they are having him send the memory back to them (they pay the shipping). Yeah, it sucks that he could have had an extra gig for free, but hopefully he will feel better knowing that he did the right thing. Also, perhaps something good will happen to reward him for doing the right thing. Or he could just feel good about himself. Whichever.

Why do you even need to ask this question? The right thing to do is to contact them and inform them of their mistake. As everyone else has said, they'll probably just let you keep it anyway. Honesty always pays off in the end, and it is the right thing to do.

Exactly! The thread should never have started.

(On that note, please send me the chip and I will forward a new 1GB one by FedEx) :)

So say what happened to ~Shard~ happens to you. The waiter should keep your $50 because it's your mistake? I just want to know if it's only ok when it's other peoples' money we're talking about or if your money/mistakes can be included in this philosophy.

A very good point - that's why you have to look at things from all perspectives.

If you don't send it back, you'll probably have that nagging guilt in the back of your head.. I know I would.

Do you always completely contradict yourself in your posts? :p :D

It's a quote from Pacino in "the devil's advocate".

I recognize the quote, it's a good one. :D I just found it amusing that via that quote, you implied that guilt weighs you down and that to get rid of it you should get it off your back, i.e. tell the truth so you don't feel guilty. Then you tell him the opopsite - to keep it. :p ;)

Ok, i'll try again.

Ah, but now you're changing Mr. Pacino's quote... :p :D

Anywho, enough off-topic fun and games... ;)

I would accpect someone to tell me of my mistake if i had made one, in this case its there mistake ans its your turn to tell them about it. You getting extra memory "could" get someone fired (could, could and could), that would be very bad to that person knowing he has done nothing wrong.
