Hi,

I made an appointment with a Genius at my local Apple Store. When I powered it on, the Genius noticed the "defect" right away. He said that he had seen similar occurences happen, and that the screen would need to be repaired. He checked to see if the store carried the part, but it didn't. He informed me that the laptop would have to be shipped to the repair station. The turn-around should be between 5-7 days.

The problem description on my work order states "LCD is showing .25" line of bright pixels..."

I will post back here when I get it back.

Also you should always insist that you cannot part with your mbp for work or whatever, so that they order the part there. They will call you when it comes in and repair it on site. Never have it sent anywhere if you don't have to. Replacing a MBP monitor is farely straight forward and quick too.

Well, I don't have any other options now that it's being returned to me. Apple has this work order in the system now. Even if I go to another Apple store, they will be able to see that I already tried to have it replaced, and they'll tell me "nice try!"

well hopefully your monitor will crap out anyway after a month or so and then you'll be able to get a bunch of free replacements like I did...yipeee!

One can only hope! I find it disrespectful to send a customer's computer in for repair, only to have someone in the "depot" determine that the user actually caused the issue. This is a very objective and shameful process, especially accusing the customer of damaging the computer.

I've had three Dell laptops over the past several years, and I have never encountered any LCD issues like this. I understand the policy of dead pixels, but this is not even close to being 2-3 dead pixels. It's a whole 1/2 inch line of bright pixels...or so they say.

I don't know enough about this LCD technology to refute their claim.

Very disgusted right now....

I have the exact same problem - it appeared a couple of months ago. Two lines, only noticeable on on colour backgrounds, not black.

Photographs I take don't seem to emphasis how bad it is - it is really bright on light colours and stands out.

Bang on the left side of the screen though, so guess it isn't that much of an issue, but never the less noticeable and annoying.

Maybe I should try an Apple authorized Best Buy location. Could this make a difference?

Here's an update as of Friday morning.

I was contacted by Apple's Corporate Executive Relations Department on Tuesday. After playing phone tag for a day, the person looking into my case said he would get in touch with the Genius Bar employees at the store, and he would talk with the technician at the depot who made the determination. He also asked me to submitted some pictures of the LCD showing the line.

He did say that he will try to resolve this issue for me. I have submitted the pictures this morning, and I'm now waiting on a response...

Mine has the same problem on the left. It's not as big as yours, but it does appear to be inside the LCD. I'm on hold with Apple right now. Apparently this is an issue that several people have had.

Apple better not deny my repair.......

Hi,

On Friday afternoon, I got a call saying that he had received my pictures and he would be forwarding them to some engineers for further examination. I should have an update on Monday.

Keep us posted on your repair status...or lack therefore!

It's being sent in as soon as I get the box. I should have it tomorrow. I also complained about backlight bleeding along the bottom of the screen. That's 2 problems. Maybe they'll find one of those bad enough to replace it. We'll see. I'll keep you updated.

Update as of Monday evening...

I received a call this afternoon from the person taking care of my case, and he said he would authorize the repairs to be done. I could sense he was reluctant doing so, as he told me "the LCD was shipped in perfectly working order, and the engineers confirmed that, and something had to have happened for this line to appear...with that said, please try to take care of your computer with the utmost care!"

This line is familiar, as I told him during our initial conversation that I do take care of my electronics with the "utmost care!" I also reiterated that I placed the MBP in sleep mode for about 4 hours, and when I turned it back on, the line was there. I was not even around, and no one else was here. He said "well we do understand that stuff happens, and that's why we are going to cover it."

So there it goes again to the depot, but at least the LCD will be fixed.

I had a line that was most likely caused by pressure of the metal edge beneath the keyboard, and they replaced it with no problems. Sorry for your trouble.
