Other Smaller battery size for the 12 is a step backward

I really thought we might be done with Apple trying to squeeze a smaller battery into their phones, but here we are again with them reducing the battery size across all the new models. If these reported battery sizes are true its really disappointing. They should be looking to improve the battery life every year, not just striving to try and get the same battery time as last years model. I don't have a lot of confidence that the battery will last nearly as long as last years, especially since Apple didn't mention battery life one time during the Keynote yesterday.

Reported values of the 12 compared to the 11 series:

iPhone 11 - 3110 mAh
iPhone 12 - 2775 mAh

iPhone 11 Pro - 3046 mAh
iPhone 12 Pro - 2775 mAh

iPhone 11 Pro Max - 3969 mAh
iPhone 12 Pro Max - 3687 mAh

I believe all of the new models weight more than last years. And they definitely aren’t smaller.

I'm guessing its a balancing act between size, efficiency, power etc and a load of other things. They were praised last year for the battery life across all devices, so if its the same battery life this year, is that a problem? Next gen we should see improvements?

Is anybody complaining about iPhone battery life in general these days? I can't remember the last time I burned through my phone's battery in a day, regardless of how many Zoom calls I've been on.

iPhone 12 is shorter, narrower, thinner, and lighter than iPhone 11.

If you are using an 11 model thats great. Everyone I know who uses anything below that burns through their battery easily before the day is over.

You can't really compare 11 Pro and Pro Max with 12 Pro and Pro Max when it comes to dimensons because both got larger displays (6.1" vs. 5.8" and 6.7" vs. 6.5"). However they have the same weight as their 11 Pro series counterpart thou.

But 11 vs. 12, the 12 is indeed smaller and lighter compared to the 11. 👍

But the comparison is to the 11 models so these 12 models will have slightly better battery life than the already outstanding battery life on last years models. There’s no need to make the battery bigger if they can keep the same great battery life that we got last year.

You have no idea if Thats true or not. And with the addition of 5G I’d say its most likely not.

Also, I thought we were going for improvements every year. Getting “the same as last year” isn’t something that should be celebrated.

And I find it oddly curious that Apple didn’t make one mention of battery life in the keynote. Not one single mention discussing how great the battery life will be.

Keeping around the same battery life is key...they reduced the thickness to 7.4mm by keeping almost the same battery life is a step forward...since the pro models went bigger, to have a thicker phone is an compromised
So the improvement is that we dont have a big and thick iphone this year...we just have just a big one
Again, if you want to hate what apple has done...you can...but this is the best overall iphone yet
I love the battery on the 11 pro models, but to have the same battery in an thinner device with bigger displays is a step forward...i guess they could do that by shrinking the battery a little thanks to the efficiency of the 5nm architecture

So what, every battery statistic for every device they’ve released is correct but this one, for the first time ever, is wrong just because it doesn’t fit your argument?

Getting the same as last year when it’s amongst the best in the industry and having a smaller and lighter phone or a phone with a bigger screen should be applauded.

By your logic battery is the only improvement they should ever make.

They said in the keynote they have the same great battery life.

Do some actual research to back up your bad takes and maybe they won’t be so bad.

Same goes for you...since you dont have the iphone in your hand how do you know is worse ?!
So, bigger displays, thinner device , with almost the same awesome battery life...is a step forward...but until we cannot see the real thing, and real tests we cannot judge if it a step forward or backwards

But that's the whole point isn't it? That the 11s and 12s will get roughly the same battery life and these are better than the previous generations?

I'm now confused as to the point you're trying to make...

You literally just asked if anyone was complaining about battery life these days. The answer is yes if you aren’t using the newest device. Not everyone upgrades every year and the battery life isn’t great on the SE, XR and lower models. So thats the point I’m trying to make. If you don’t want the answer don’t ask the question.

Lol oh I said the phone was bad? Take off your Apple goggles for a sec. All I said was that I think a smaller battery is a step backward. Its my opinion and I don’t think the battery will last as long as the 11.

Ok, put your goggles back on and you may resume the Apple defending.
 
They would probably have felt huge in the hand with the slab sides if they hadn't made them thinner, and making them thinner means reducing the volume of the battery. It does look like they might have lost just a bit of endurance over the 11 Pro models (18h video playback to 17) but still puts them in line with the 11. Better battery is always desirable but its a balance, and until there's a big breakthrough in battery tech (like Aluminium ion with 3x the charge density) there's no way around the basic fact that a bigger battery will last longer. They've done well to shave the battery down and more or less maintain endurance.

I’m not the one basing these things on what I feel and think. That’s you. I and everyone else here is looking at the actual numbers before coming to a conclusion. You’re on some tirade for no reason and you’re not even making a clear argument. You’re just bouncing around saying no to whatever anyone says and ignoring all of the information in front of you.
