Is there a way to make my signature smaller? The smallest size in the menu is 1.

Also, what does "macrumors 68040" mean? Thanks.

Smaller print in the signature isn't so bad. I must say, the font size in the Safari's favourites bar...well, that's really small/tiny. I have "never use fonts smaller than 18" selected in Safari in preferences.

Just one more question. I understand what the number "68040" is all about in relation to the number of posts, but why was that number picked by MacRumors? Why not some other number?

This will explain everything you need to know:

The numbers come from the increasingly powerful microprocessors used in Apple computers over the years. The 6502 and 658xx are from the Apple II family, 680x0 were used in early Macintosh systems, 601 and beyond are PowerPC chips.

1 should be the only size available for a signature.
