It's a Nice thought, but that's likely not going to happen. The whole point of the iPhone SE was to create a budget iPhone in a smaller form factor for those who are not interested in the larger iPhones or latest capabilities. And, the iPhone SE was also intended for India's market as well. The next iPhone SE, will have some changes, but if Apple plans on retaining the price point, it certainly will not be able to incorporate an OLED display or technology like Face ID for a $400.00 iPhone.

Woah! The notch actually doesn't look half bad when paired with that design. It somehow complements the frame. It looks retro yet fresh at the same time. Fix the glaring UI issue with the notch and I might even be okay with that. Huh...

I couldn't see myself using an even smaller display though. Bigger is better, up to a certain point. I'm all for giving people options. I'd love for Apple to do something like this because I know it would make a lot of people happy.

Oh of course, I don't expect this to be the next iPhone SE, however having a flagship iPhone with a flagship price that has a smaller size (comparable to the size of the iPhone SE) and the specs/features of the iPhone X is something I hope Apple will do. They can keep the SE as a budget model for India, but also have a flagship phone of a similar size. (We know there's a 6.3' rumored iPhone X coming out next year, so I was hoping we could get a smaller variant as well).

That is my ideal phone. Take the SE and make it just like the X

SE = Probably remain TFT LCD until 2019
iPhone 8 = carryover model until 2019

OLED
5.2" - Smaller variant for easier manufacturability (LG panel)
5.8" - Discontinue
6.4" - Larger variant in order to keep the $999 price (Samsung panel)

What is it with Apple fans that want tiny phones? For years Apple was using tiny 3.7 or 4.0 inch screens when the world was wanting 5 inch and above. How about we forget the tiny displays and persuade Apple into a 6.5 inch screen! That is a real 6.5 without the notch.

Not everyone wants a phablet, necessitating two-hands for a phone. I've got an iPad, 15" MBP and 55" TV that take care of all those times I want a bigger screen. Even at 6.5", a phone loses out to any of those devices when it comes to screen size.

Also, according to the following article the launch sales of the 7/7+ broke down as 45%/55% respectively. Clearly many people prefer saner screen sizes.

In my humble and honest opinion, if you can't use it with one hand, it's not a really a phone then. ;)

But srsly, there's a real fine line between a smartphone and a tablet, and 6.3 inches is just crossing the line imo. A phone needs to be versatile, I need to be able to use it one-hand when I'm on the train or walking with my coffee in the other hand. If I needed to use 2 hands, I would've pulled out my tablet, simple. So for people like you, they should definitely make it 6.3" actually max it out to 7" for all I care. But they should make a phone for people like me as well, and this [iPhone SE-sized iPhone X] would be heaven for me, as its the perfect screen size (4.7-ish?) in a perfect form factor.

Now I all I have to do is pray to the :apple: Gods everyday to make this happen.

Not strictly true. Apple fans want larger screens, but want the smaller form factor. The reason I'm staying with the SE is it is 100x more practical to use and live with than anything bigger IMO. Fits in pocket without notice, genuine one hand usage etc.

I'd love the SE 2 with a similar design to the X, but it's just not going to happen, at least not for a long, long time.

You would essentially have 2.5 inches of screen area for viewing video if this concept was true.

There should be a smaller X. Until this year, Apple has always had a flagship phone you could use with one hand.
Not quite true, remember how long it took to update the iPhone 5s? iPhone 6 was released September 2014, and Apple kept the 5s around as a previous-gen device with 2013 specs until March 2016 brought the SE.

If history repeats itself - and knowing Apple, it probably will - expect a refresh to the SE in Q1 2018 with iPhone 8 specs. Do NOT expect iPhone X features like an OLED display or Face ID, you will likely be disappointed as this is Apple's low-cost offering.

Meanwhile... I am waiting for the iPhone X Plus. :)

Personally I still consider the iPhones with 4.7" screens to be one handed phones. Marginally so though, and those with smaller hands may disagree with that opinion.

You could even argue the Plus is a one-handed device thanks to the software Reachability feature (also not present on the iPhone X), activated with a home button double-tap. (Feature brings the top of the screen down which would otherwise be out-of-reach.)

Never really liked Reachability, but in certain situations that necessitate one-handed use it's very nice to have.

You could I suppose, but that would make for a bad user experience I think. I'd hate needing to activate reachability every time I need to tap something in the top ~1/5 of the screen. And the fact that its gone in the X means that work around isn't even available.

Has nothing to do with Apple fans. Some people just prefer smaller phones.
