I started this thread a while ago.. After reading through them i've decided I should just buy a 12" powerbook.. The price on ebay is very good at this point.. They don't run hot, does everything I need it to and is small.. I need to travel with it and couldn't give a hoot about running windows at all.. It's also lighter and smaller then anything they have today..

I think that is a GREAT decision. I have friends with the 12" PB, and there is something incredibly sexy about it compared to my 15". If you want ultimate portability, this is as close as Apple has yet got.

They REALLY should introduce a smaller 4lb MacBook Pro, for those that want portable use of OSX, but do not need vast screen real estate, or high power (e.g. CD 1.67, integrated graphics) - (think journalists/business peeps, etc). But I'm not sure if, or when, it will happen.

You're right, many people have no need for the vast screen real estate of a 13.3 inch widescreen. But I don't think we'll see anything with the Macbook Pro name come with integrated graphics.

I think the current Macbooks will stay close to their current configuration for a while, with price drops, and a 12" or 13.3" MacBook Pro will be added and the rest of the MBPs upgraded.

Apple confirmed that there will be no MacBook Pro 13.3" or any other equivalent to the 12" PowerBook. As for a thinner lighter notebook, in the future, I'm sure technology will grow and in that will come smaller and more compact systems because everyone loves portability nowadays. But nobody knows when that day will actually be.

When did Apple say this?

I don't think they ever said this. If you're talking about the comment Steve Made at MacWorld, he could have easily meant that the MacBook was meant to temporarily cover the iBooks and 12" PB slot, but that they planned on further expansion of the line in the future.

I may be wrong, but I think as we get deeper into the Intel transition, the line of laptops will broaden more than it is right now. As it stands right now, the specs of the MacBooks are too close to the MBPs.

No, I think the MacBook will go down in history as the lightest, smallest notebook to ever exist. No one will ever create technology more advanced than that which allows Apple to create such a compact notebook, nor will anyone ever need more than 640Kb of RAM.

I know this isn't solid proof that anything new won't be released, but on the MacBook page it says "Meet the Family. Now complete."

I found that to be interesting.
