Think it depends on where you want to listen to your music.
Just at home or on the road as well.

I have all of my music on a NAS, and configured iTunes to not manage my library, however I did set the iTunes folder to a local drive so that rips are put there. I just need to move them to the NAS and re-add them again.

When I am on the road I don't need all of my music, so I got a iPod Nano for that.

most people do the optibay setup with a regular hdd replacing the optical or just relocate your itunes library to an external hdd and you can only access with the drive plugged in but for some people that works depends how often you use your itunes.

unfortunately for me this is the reason i have not gone the way of ssd i need a lot of space and my optical drive :/ and dont have 1000bux for an ssd but my MBP is still plenty fast for me :D

To address the OP: I have a 120GB drive that I'm so paranoid about keeping at 30% or less capacity (don't know if that still makes a difference but my Vertex 3 has been working perfectly (insanely fast) for over a month now so i just want to leave it alone).

As someone considering purchasing an SSD... huh? Why would you use only 30% of the drive’s space?

I don't have an iTunes library :D

I have a Spotify subscription and I stream everything. A few albums are stored for the rare cases where I don't have an internet connection and want to use my computer to listen to music.
Same thing for my iPhone..

Overall a 128 gb SSD is more than enough for my needs :)
