Does the Smart Cover allow the iPad (12.9) to be angled for on-screen typing as I am thinking of using the pencil more but also with on-screen as needed, rather than the A.S.K. which I am now not using as much as not too keen on the angle when on my lap.

Any comments on usability of smart cover?

Many thanks.

You can but I've found the leather Smart Cover not to do it so well. Doesn't seem to hold it's place as well as the 9.7 one did.

I expect I need to try it in store, just wondered how the angle was for typing and if usable or not.

Will try and do some pics and a video for you later when I get home and you can see how the cover and iPad looks in that position.

I have both the Smart Cover and ASK for my first gen 12.9" and I have found myself going back to using the onscreen keyboard myself. The ASK is just so floppy and even minimal, bulky. I've never been in love with the feed angle or the fabric keys anyway and the software keyboard even gives more options - plus it's always backlit!

Anyway, yes, the Smart Cover works very well for typing and drawing with the Apple Pencil. For taking notes I find it is better to lay the iPad flat like a normal notebook but I think you would find it a great combination of light weight and a great typing angle.
