So... I thought this would be an 'automatic thing.' As in, Apple's own accessory would get rid of my on screen keyboard AND let me still type. When I reduce the size of the on screen keyboard, I usually can't type in the field I was working in.

On the other hand, most bluetooth keyboards that have an extra row of function keys allow me to shut that down! UGH! Anyone know a magic keyboard shortcut?

Speaking of keyboard short cut, it seems like the only real universal one is the Command - Tab. Does this sound right? The home combination doesn't seem to be universal either...

And well THANK YOU! :) Trust me, I was searching and THOUGHT I saw it but all the threads are about where to find the Smart Keyboard to begin with! Thanks again DGGoingUphill!

For me, when the Smart Keyboard is in the typing position, the on-screen keyboard is automatically hidden.

In fact, the iPad will not register any keyboard input at all unless the iPad is seated in the magnetic strip on the keyboard.
