If you are like me and don’t like screen protectors, I would suggest getting one if you have the Smart Keyboard Folio. I have only had the new keyboard folio for 5 days and a nice scratch cluster appeared, which matches one of the keys. I returned the keybaord and Apple denied me a warranty replacement on the iPad since I bought it at BestBuy. Lesson learned.

Sorry to hear it. That doesn’t seem right to me at all- it’s Apple’s product and they should have to honor their warranty! I bought mine at Best Buy too- hope I don’t have problems down the road. Did you try the warranty replacement at the store or through Apple by phone?

Both.. went to store first. Genius and Mgr denied based on cosmetic damage. Said I could get AppleCare and pay the $49 fee, but they didn't have any in stock. I tried the phone option and they actually said to just go back to BestBuy. Next morning went to BB (15th day for return period) and was upfront on the scratches and they returned it.

Just wanted to make sure people were aware that the keyboard caused scratches. I typically travel for work and iPad was in backpack otherwise it stays very clean etc. The scratches were directly over one of the key's from the keyboard and were in a circular pattern, seeming to indicate the keyboard moving around slightly.

There are a lot of threads about Smart Keyboard Folio issues. I'm not sure this year's model is better than the last few models. The last few models folded the keyboard inside and then the microfiber material rested against the iPad screen.

I haven't had any issues, however I always give the keyboard a wipe down with microfiber before folding against the screen. Just a habit, even from previous generations of covers. You never know what deposits you collect on the surface that can cause a scratch.

That's a good habit, but hard to do that when you are in a hurry.

Buying at Bb shouldn’t have been relevant to their decision. Weird.

I bought the keyboard folio and I've been really tempted to return it and get a Canopy + Magic Keyboard combo...

This is what I’m doing. Dropped my keyboard folio in the mail on Tuesday and should have the magic keyboard on Friday. I’m on the fence about the canopy as I think I’ll have to mod it to work with the new iPP as the iPP rests kind of low and with no home button, the swipe up is going to be a big deal. I was hoping to see a price cut for the holidays, but I haven’t.

Did you put your iPad in a separate case? If so, what are you using?

Agreed and never had issues in past with BB bought apple gear. They said since it’s cosmetic and I bought it from BB they couldn’t do anything. He said if I bought from Apple no problem. Very strange.

I got a measly 10% off the canopy during BF.

I heard Gruber say on twitter the low profile wasn’t that big of an issue. For some height, I’ve seen people put the pencil underneath to lift it up a bit.

I put felt pads on the origami case for my Apple Wireless keyboard to raise up the ipad and protect the edges. I wonder if the same would work with the canopy.

This sucks, specially considering all the issues there have been with glass screen protector, I actually created a thread asking if this was an issue but no one seemed to have problems.

I am using mine with the Apple Leather Sleeve for the 10.5 iPad and it fits very tight so I think my iPad could also suffer.

If you’re still looking for a screen protector, the word is that the MediaDevil magicscreen works with no issues for almost everyone. It’s not glass but is 9h hardness and perfectly clear.
