In Windows XP you can select all the files you want to rename, then choose rename and you type for instance "Name.ext" and it will automatically rename the others to "Name (1).ext" "Name (2).ext"... is there a built in function as well for this in OS X?

I havn't tried, but I highly doubt it. Maybe on Vista, but not on XP. Thats an Apple thing.

No, there isn't.

You have to use 3rd party utilites or shell/java/apple scripts.

"FileNamer" and "A Better Finder Renamer" leap to mind for 3rd party apps.

(Fixed bad app name)
