I just received the Smartish Kung Fu Grip case for my iPhone X based on the Wirecutter recommendation and I like it. I’m coming from the tank-like Otterbox Defender, so it feels like a new phone pretty much. Does anyone own this case and had a good/bad experience with it?

I have used these cases for several generations, and though, I often stray to a different case, I usually come back to these. I prefer the feel/grip over Caudabe’s Sheath.

No bad experience with these cases, ever.

No, but I saw the clear one on Amazon and it's in my 'saved for later' bucket. Seems like a very intriguing case. Cheap too.

I love these cases, I’ve used them on my iPhone 7 Plus and now on my XS Max (In fact, I have three colors for the Max, plus another Smartish frosted clear Nudist that’s pretty similar).

i've used them ever since Wirecutter first recommended them, i think going back to the iPhone 7. they're cheap and durable—never broken a phone while using them. but they will discolor on you, especially the clear ones. but even the blue one, which is my daily driver, has discolored. (silk replaced them each time)

but i recently got my first caudabe. it's about twice as much as silk ($24 vs $12), but the quality seems to be twice as good too. just a tighter fit and finish, especially on my XS.

there's nothing wrong with silk cases per se, but if you spend a little more, you'll get better quality too.

I've looked at Caudable, but I guess I associate them with the super-ultra-thin, almost not there cases, which looks like the Veil. I see the Sheath on their site which looks to have similar coverage to the Silk/Smartish ones, have you tried them? I do like the camo green (which isn't camoflauge, just a nice green) on their site. I guess one can never have too many cases.

The Smartish is thicker and wider than the Sheath. To me, it is more comfortable to hold because of this. I also think the texture on the Smartish is more grippy than the Sheath.

i got the sheath. it is thinner the the silk (the camera bump sticks out a tad), but it's grippier and has a tighter fit than the silk. on my XS for instance, the speaker cut outs are uneven, to match the uneven speaker holes. silk has them the same size (as was for the iphone x). it's not a dealbreaker, but shows that caudabe pays a bit more attention to detail.

but i used exclusively silk/smartish for years before this. as i said above, there's nothing wrong with them—they're great durable cheap cases. just right now im on team caudabe.
