So we have had a smartphone for 10 years (or longer if you consider pre-iphone) and I'm still waiting for them to actually get smart. Hear me out, and of course if anyone knows of an app or 'other' that does this them please direct me -

I want my phone (lock screen would be amazing, but app would do) that can give me day information at a glance, with minimal interaction from me. For example;

You have 24 unread emails, 14 are from people you know (contacts) and 4 are from contacts you email with regularly
Txt same information
Calendar - here are your upcoming events for the next 2 hours (or what ever fits on screen)
Plus other bits of interesting data mined information that would be of interest (Facebook, Twitter etc).

Key thing for me that makes it smart is that I don't have to go find, it seeks and presents....

Thoughts or options welcome.

So out of the billion of things you could want to know you expect the phone to just "read your mind" and give it to you..... Ok. You know you can customize what you see on your lock screen.... maybe it won't be a detailed as you like but I find when I'm getting in my car at the same time of day and my phone tells me how long it will take to where I'm going even when I didn't ask it to tell me that seems pretty smart.

Go get a windows phone with "live tiles" or whatever.

BTW, how is what you're describing different from the pull-down notifications screen?

With the notifications screen I still have to define what gets listed, and the information is generic not drilled, ie all emails all texts etc. since posting I've been checking out Sunrise which is pretty and a bit closer to what I'm thinking. Also Fantastical but in reverse. I have a surface pro, live tiles are interesting for a while then it wears off.

It's not really reading my mind, but rather reading all the data I feed into it. True about the drive thing, I also like that. I guess my point is that very little seems predictive, and most of the time I find myself seeking the same kinds of information and wondering why the iPhone can't process habits and 'read' those.

Whose fault is it if you're simply bored?

Have you investigated the OmniFocus app/suite?

Actually the opposite, I thought I was posing an interesting question. Never said anything about being bored. Yes, I've tried pretty much all that Omni has to offer. I don't think you understand the question, perspectives are interesting, but again it's a manual process of accessing data I've already input.

Nobody would buy a phone like that... they are paranoid enough that Apple is selling their prints and voice to Aliens and government agencies now...

That being said an app that does all that wouldn't really be THAT difficult to make. That is a lot of info for one app/database to have on you, though.

The opposite? You said the live tiles were interesting but then it wore off. Pretty sure that's the exact meaning of bored.

OP, what you want is achievable.

The question is. Do you want to jailbreak?

Came here to say this... If you jailbreak, you can have exactly what you want. Outside of that, one suggestion that I can make is to add the people you really want to see emails from to your VIP list. You can customize notifications on the lock screen to only show from those people. Its a bit of a work around and not really what you are looking for, but its the only thing I can think of without jailbreaking.

If you are open to jailbreaking, I would check out intelliscreen. I think it can be configured to do exactly what you are looking for...
