Just smashed my screen last night literally only clipped the corner of something and it completely smashed.

Series 1 - gold (or yellow as apple call it) - 42mm

My question is what would other people do in my position ? Apple want nearly £190 to replace the unit but a new one is £299.

Just sharing my pain and interested to know what others would / have done.

Since you just bought it and it's new, £190 to replace is significantly less than a £299 replacement. Also you should probably get :apple:Care too. In the US you have up to 60 days to purchase :apple:Care after original :apple:Watch purchase.

I think I am going to add :apple: care to mine. $50 seems reasonable for all it covers.

Just bought Care for my watch, they have to physically see the device they are covering to make sure here is no existing damage and to grab the serial number.

Yes that's what I thought that's what they did otherwise people who damage their Apple goods would be taking out AppleCare afterwards and then claiming as it's a cheaper and dishonest way of getting a replacement

I guess for adding :apple:Care post purchase Apple must base it off customer history. On my :apple:Watch I added it on day 58 and did it over the iPhone.

I just called them to add it to my watch last year, didn't run any tests or need to see it. It was quite a bit after I purchased it too.
