i downloaded it and use it everytime i have my mbp on my lap for more than 15 min...it works like charm,BUT is it safe??? i mean doesnt that kill the fans working that fast?? wouldnt that be harmful in time?
cause I use it all the time now that I'm working at coffee shops a lot. Is my mbpro going to blow up one day? I just wonder... apple seems so on top of hardware - that if they didn't make this automatic when it get's hot, then there's some reason - right. I'd just like to know if it's a good reason.
The worst it could do is wear out the fan motors. But when you consider apple has designed them to go at a minimum of 2000 revolutions per minute for several years of computing, I doubt very much that an extra few RPM will do much harm.
Personally i prefer fan control (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23137) as it dynamically adjusts your fan based on how hot it is, to try and mantain constant temperature. smcfan just bangs it up to twice the minimum speed, which isn't always required. You get a graph like image (below) that allows you to set a temperature scale.
