smc fan control not launching

When I launch smc Fan Control, a space is created on my menu bar where smc should be. But now, the space just appears and is left completely blank. After a few seconds, the space disappears again. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it has done nothing to fix it. Anyone know whats happening, and possibly a solution

Are you sure it's not running? Since El Capitan, I have several menu bar apps that act like that. But they're still running. If I click the empty space, their menu appears and works fine. ownCloud does this, for example.
