SMC reset graphics issue

A few months ago, this was all the rage, and people on the forums often complained of a graphics issue that caused slowdowns. This issue was fixed by an SMC reset, which they had to do pretty often. Was this issue ever solved by apple, and does it still affect the 15" rmbps updated in February? I'm considering getting one now, as I can't wait more than about another week.

There was an SMC update issued in February which fixed it.
