okay so i downloaded smcfancontrol for my imac 20" 2.66 and i set up my cpu fan 1800 rpms for when i am ripping dvds but when i quit the app the fans stay at 1800 they dont go back to normal. When i set it back to default and i start ripping a dvd the rmps wont go up they stay at 1200 which is the default. I have even tried deleting the the app but the nothing changes. Am i doing something wrong?

When you change the active setting in smcFanControl.....this sets the minimum fan speed. So when you set it to 1800, your fans will go to 1800....however, IF the system needs to spin them higher....it will.

smcFanControl's settings stick unless you change them in the app or reboot. So just turning off the App and uninstalling, won't reset the fans. You'd need to either reinstall the app and change the level back, or just restart.

If you always want your fan levels to be at a higher than default level, you need to keep smcFanControl running, and add it to start automatically when your system does.
