I have an iPhone X running iOS 13 beta 5. ATT is my service provider. I have turned off cellular data. I have also turned off Wi-Fi calling. I just tried texting two people that have android phones and they were able to receive my texts. The text bubbles on my phone are green and yet my wife sitting next to me receives the text on her galaxy phone just fine. How is this possible? It works whether or not I turn iMessage on or off.

Technically, SMS messages do not go over cellular data. As long as the cellular radio is on, SMS works.

I know, that’s why I’m perplexed. I’m wondering if there is a bug w the beta iOS where cell isn’t really being turned off.

You never said the cellar radio was turned off, so I assumed you had a cellular connection. Turning off cellular data is not the same as turning off the radio (airplane mode).

You’re right. I thought the cell icon in the control center was for the radio and not just data. Oops :)
