Every 10 minutes I get an "account update" window message that says "your balance is 49.whatever"

Every time I send a text message it says "the following action cost $0.00"

WTF is the point of this? Apparently there is no way to turn it off? So either sign a 2 year contract with them or have an annoying notification that basically turns it into a $600 annoyance?

Has anybody heard of a hack around this? I've searched and haven't been able to find anything except people voicing their frustration.

I called AT&T to ask how to turn it off, was told to "hit ok everytime it pops" up. When I said that's pointless as it's basically telling me every 10 minutes my account is unchanged, he hung up.

Rather than tearing the local manager a new one, I would rather find a hack, because I don't want to rope myself into the 2 year post billing.

    any ideas?

BTW, I managed to get into the gophone bracket because I had a collection issue with them from a year ago where they didn't turn off my phone when I switched to T-Mobile and tried to sic a collection agency on me. My credit would preclude me from a gophone, but thankfully it checks the ATT database first, and to them I'm a bad customer bwahaha :D

I use iPhone with "pay as you go" gophone (hacked) and I only get notifications with calls/sms etc, and it actually says how much it cost, so its probably due to data plan.
I think your notifications is due to scheduled EDGE activity like mail check, time sync etc, try to turn those off.

Well I have the 1500 text messages and a high calling minute plan, so when it gives me SMS notifications it still says $0.00

Apparently it's to deter people from using gophone. I'm slowly getting used to it. But it's still annoying

I started with GoPhone when the iPhone came out. Spent over 10 hours fighting with ATT regarding the BS messages. I had the max plan etc etc.... ATT does not want to help you regarding this issue.

Only thing I can suggest is that you switch to a real AT&T plan if you can. I contacted the bbb and they were kind enough to go after ATT for me so I did get money from my GoPhone account transfered over to my ATT new plan but it was a hassle and once again I spent over 5 hours with them on the phone.

As for GoPhone.... Should rename it NoPhone. You don't want to own a iPhone on the GoPhone plan unless your willing to get messaged every 15 minutes that the last transaction cost you $0.00.

For those who don't have GoPhone be happy. Imagine your phone going off all night every 15 minutes.

AT&T's customer service is a joke. I was surprised that Apple was willing to do business with them given this reflects on them as well.
