smtp for Leopard

The outgoing smtp for mail in Leopard will not connect to my server. It is identical to the nomenclature of my outgoing smtp in Thunderbird, which connects instantaneously to my server. Any ideas what I am missing here? I assume it's me, not the computer.

Make sure you're using the same port. SMTP will usually default to Port 25, but many providers block that, so 587 is a favorite alternate. I'm using 995 with my accounts and have no problems.

Don't forget you might need to be using SSL as well.
