SMTP Mail settings problem in Mavericks ?

My SMTP settings in Mail in OSX 10.9.5 have suddenly stopped connecting saying wrong username or password?

I have not changed any settings
and have re-entered the correct user-name and password but it will not connect
saying (offline)

Any ideas?
