Don't suppose anyone knows why my Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo) emits intermittent static and various other irritating noises?

It does it mostly when playing music through iTunes or using emulators such as UAE. Strangely I don't notice any glitches when watching TV via EyeTV.

It's not the speakers because I've tried plugging in headphones and the distortion is still audible. I've also muted the line-in and that didn't help either.

So, are you saying the noise is over the audio jack and that you hear it through the headphones themselves?

Yes, it's coming through the speakers/earbuds rather than electrical distortion of some kind.
