Snapchat has introduced a new feature called Memories, accessible by swiping up on the main camera screen, that serves as a personal collection of your favorite saved snaps and stories.

Memories can be viewed personally, sent to your friends, or added to your Snapchat story. A snap taken more than 24 hours ago will appear with a frame around it in your story to indicate that it is older.

Memories are categorized, so you can search for keywords such as "dog" or "Hawaii" to easily find specific Snaps and Stories related to a particular night out, vacation, anniversary, birthday, or other occassion.

Memories also includes a My Eyes Only feature that makes personal snaps viewable by you only when showing your Memories to others.

Snapchat was updated today, but Memories will continue to roll out selectively over the next month or so.

Snapchat is free on the App Store [Direct Link] for iPhone and iPod touch.

next up: some "amazing" new filters only showing u snaps of people u interact with the most cuz ... no one ever asked for it on all the other social media apps! ;)

Facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat, etc... All turning into the same stupid "social network", in turn utterly wasting an unfathomable amount of time from our society.

Ok. So how is snapchat different again? I thought the messages were meant to disappear but now it keeps evidence around :) just like Facebook, Twitter, FireChat, Instagram, whats app and the list goes on. More stickers and filters are always welcome though. Well at least FireChat still deletes all communication when you sign out.

I read the headline and wasn't sure, but this is actually a cool feature.

I think maybe 10% of the time I use SnapChat I end up saving a photo I've taken, so this is a welcome feature.

This is contrary to the whole [original] point of the app.

It's like if Facebook came up with a feature where nothing you posted was displayed or retained.

I thought the whole point of snapchat was that everything was temporary. That it didn't store anything that could come back and haunt you.
It used to be about sending inappropriate photos, but now it's about telling people what you're doing or saying hi to people. Well, people also send inappropriate photos on it.

great. another company scanning my photos for information.

Aw, come on, its just Facebook, the personal data strip-miner. Obviously Snapchat needs data / photo's they can monetize by making it non temporary...so what if its totally at odds with the original purpose of their service.

So now it's like Ohhhhh-Snap.Chat...
and whoops...I just deleted that app.

Ain't Nobody Got Time for this bait and switch bullsh**
