Privacy is not really an issue anymore. At least these make it obvious when someone is using them. The reality is, there are already spy cameras someone can cheaply and easily use if they really want to do something clandestine. Heck, people are already doing it with mobile phones. Cameras are ubiquitous. The sooner the general population realizes there is no more privacy in public spaces (including semi-private ones like locker rooms), the better off they will be.
The Facebook scandal is a great example of the slow building revolt against privacy concerns. Just because the pendulum has swung to one extreme does not mean it won’t correct back to the other extreme. People used to use phones all the time in movie theatres, for example, disturbing the movie. I seldom observe this behaviour anymore where I live. Social norms correct these types of behaviours for the most part. The same will occur with video recording as well.

I'd pick one up if they didn't look like thick-rimmed hipster sunglasses. But I guess that would defeat the purpose and novelty.

I don't disagree. But like Facebook, what it will take is an abuse of the technology. Once people find that they are appearing on the internet in snapchats taken with these glasses without being aware it was happening, then there will be some backlash. In the end, those people in the theater still carry their phones, but they have learned to use them more responsibly. The cameras aren't going away, nor should they. But like any bad actor, someone who wants to capture video of someone else without their knowledge has many ways of doing it now, and nothing will change that, even banning all devices with cameras, everywhere -- which is never going to happen anyway.

I heard tell that the courts in the US have ruled that you do not have the right to expect privacy in public places like sidewalks. Which is why it is legal to use security videos. That is different at schools, colleges and universities that have hippa and what not.
