We are looking for early testers for our new watch-to-watch messenger, Snappy Messenger.

Snappy Messenger is a walkie talkie for your watch. To send a message, simply speak your message and it’s sent as text. The recipient gets the message on their watch and can reply with the hit of a button. Messages disappear after 60 minutes. It’s super simple. We think a messenger built specifically for the watch can be a significantly better experience than iMessage, SMS and the rest of the mobile messengers for brief, time-sensitive messages on the go. For example, messages like “I’m running 15 minutes late see you at 6:15 at the bus stop”.

To try it out, you’ll need to have a friend who has an Apple watch. If you do, please sign up here and we’ll send you a promo code and testing instructions. Thanks and we can’t wait for your feedback!

Wow, sounds great. Both, my wife and my mum have an apple watch, so we'd like to check your app out. Maybe we can help you with our feedback.

the automatic deletion could be a good thing...it could be a bad thing. I think you need to make this an option

There are a few key differences:

    1. Different expectations

With Snappy Messenger, messages are always going to be dictated. This means there is not much emotion through punctuation, smileys, and the way you spell things out. If such a message is sent through SMS / iMessage, the recipient will often times find it cold (we validated this through our own usage). With Snappy Messenger, we have a chance to create an entirely new expectation suitable for messaging on the watch.

Additionally, you know that any friends you message on Snappy Messenger have it installed on their watch. Receiving messages on the wrist should mean that you expect messages to be received more quickly and reliably.

    2. Optimized for the watch

The ideal messaging experience on the watch is quite different than on the phone. For example, it's cumbersome to read any long text on the watch - you have to continuously scroll, and it's especially annoying if you aren't standing still while doing it. E.g. try reading an email. We can create a more watch-optimized experience with features like 40-character message limit and disappearing messages after an hour.

We also designed it in such a way that sending and responding to a message takes considerably less steps. For example, in the 4th screenshot you can see that you can start speaking a message directly from the initial screen on the watch. In the messages app, you have to open the app, choose a conversation thread, scroll to the buttom, hit reply, then hit the Mic button to start dictating. It's super irritating to do this when you just want to send a quick message.

All of the above makes us think that this has the opportunity to be a great experience for brief, time-sensitive messages on the go. Would love to hear more thoughts on this.

Will definitely keep our eyes peeled for more feedback on this.
